RICROLIN®+

RIBOFLAVIN HYPOTONIC SOLUTION FOR ALL CROSS LINKING PROCEDURES

DESCRIPTION

Ricrolin®+ is an ophthalmic solution containing Riboflavin, specifically formulated to allow its quick passage into the corneal stroma, either through the healthy epithelium or by using a low intensity electrical field applied topically (the so-called iontophoresis).

It is indicated in combination with the UV-A emitter for corneal cross-linking in eyes with primary corneal ectasia and in particular in all ectatic diseases of the cornea and in progressive keratoconus. The aim of the product is to provide a protective barrier to the cornea in order to attenuate the penetration of UV-A rays beyond the stroma, thus preserving the delicate internal structures of the eye from the damage which radiation would cause to them: the solution can actually reduce the intensity of the UV energy reaching the deep layers of the cornea by up to 95%.

Furthermore, when administering Ricrolin®+ using iontophoresis, the Riboflavin penetration, aided by the application of a low intensity electric field, facilitates the corneal cross-linking operation by shortening absorption time and thus reducing patient discomfort.

COMPOSITION

Riboflavin sodium phosphate 0,1%

AVAILABLE
FORMULATION

1 vial containing 1,5 ml of riboflavin solution 0.1%

DOSING,
ADMINISTRATION
AND INSTRUCTION FOR USE

For Cross-linking with de-epithelisation (CXL standard) (Epi-off)
starting from 15 minutes before UV-A irradiation, instil on the cornea one drop of Ricrolin®+ every 1-2 minutes (at least 10 drops in 15 minutes).

For transepithelial Cross-linking (Epi-on)
starting from 30 minutes prior to UV-A irradiation, instil one drop on the cornea Ricrolin®+ every 2 minutes (at least 16 drops in 30 minutes). If you are using a corneal ring, leave the cornea covered by Ricrolin®+ for 20-25 minutes before irradiation.

For Cross-linking using iontophoresis
Use by iontophoresis reduces absorption time to five minutes. In the absorption stage, instil Ricrolin®+ in the specific electrode applied on the eye, until the grid is completely covered.

Then set the electric field generator and keep it running until the instrument signals completion of the absorption stage.

When the absorption stage has been completed, remove the electrode and proceed with the UV-A irradiation according to the specific treatment protocol.
